The trip from Phi Phi to Krabi Town begins on the Klong Jilad Pier. Spending time in Krabi Town gives travelers access to so many opportunities that cannot be found in the smaller towns and islands including sport-adventure tours, shopping, medical facilities as well as an array of fine dining. Khao Phanom Bencha and Than Bokkhorani national parks offer scenic attractions aside from the beaches that many search for in Thailand, gifting visitors with scenic views of waterfalls, caves, scenic hikes with bird-watching and tours.

Krabi is a great place for visitors to create their homebase on their travels to the smaller islands and destinations in the region. There are a number of fine meals to be had in Krabi, as well as comfortable accommodations to relax in and skilled therapists to give one's tired body a relaxing massage. The Wat Tham Seua, or Tiger Cave Temple, located 8 km northwest of Krabi, makes a fairly simple day trip from Krabi Town — the 1237-stair climb to the karst peak rewards those with gorgeous views, a Buddha statue and a gilded stupa.

Ferries from Klong Jilad Pier

Klong Jilad is Krabi Town's passenger port. The core route is the Krabi to Koh Phi Phi ferry — speedboats make it in under an hour, classic ferries in around ninety minutes to two hours, several times a day. Boats also run down the coast to Koh Lanta, and in high season an express service continues all the way south to Koh Lipe. For Railay, the hop is only about fifteen minutes across the bay. Onward connections to Phuket combine boat and coach and can be booked as one ticket.

Getting to the pier

The pier lies a short drive south of the Krabi Town centre — a few minutes by taxi or songthaew, and roughly half an hour from Krabi International Airport. Most combined tickets include a minivan transfer from town or airport, which takes the guesswork out of the connection. Arrive about 45 minutes before departure to check in; the terminal is clean, easy to navigate and has small shops for last-minute supplies.
