Koh Mook
Travelers on the PhiPhi Ferry have several options when planning their trips to Koh Mook. Ferries to the island - famous for its Emerald Cave attraction - run daily from Phuket, Phi Phi, the nearby islands of Koh Kradan, Lanta and Koh Ngai, as well as the Trang mainland. While many travelers choose Koh Mook as a primary destination, the island is a popular day trip for tourists seeking to enjoy more of the Trang islands.
And what a good choice that is. It's the third-largest of the island group, and Mook - in the Thai language, the word means pearl - is as beautiful as its name. Koh Mook has accommodations ranging from resort spas and hotels, to beach cottages and huts that are less expensive than some on other islands.
But Koh Mook is less developed than some of the other islands, and still retains its roots as an ancient home of Muslim fishermen. The beaches are attractive, but so are the local villages and hiking paths through tropical forests. There are no ATMs and power may not be available all day - that's true of Internet access too – but there are interesting seafood restaurants, bars and other nightlife.
As with other small islands, there is no modern pier. Travelers need to make sure they also have made arrangements for a smaller transfer boat from the ferry, which does not come in directly to an island pier. Phi Phi Ferry offers one round-trip to each connecting location daily, but that's only during the high season between November and April.
