The pier is just north and east of Surat Thani, not far from the Donsak Hospital and city offices, and is easily accessible from the airport and by taxi or minivan.
The center of Samui island is virtually untouched mountainous jungle, with beaches along its coasts and the nearby islands of Mu Koh Ang Thong and Koh Pha Ngan. Hotels and restaurants are everywhere, and vendors set up food booths in the blocked-off streets each Friday in Bophut and on Sundays in Lamai.
The concrete pier itself is a charming destination, boasting a canopied walkway and outdoor concourse with ample parking. Food and beverages are available while you wait - so are beautiful views of the sea and colorful boats - and there's plenty of room to help avoid crowding as passengers arrive and depart.
