Ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Tao
We run the Koh Samui to Koh Tao ferry every day, carrying divers, backpackers and island-hoppers north through the Gulf of Thailand. The crossing takes around 90 minutes on the faster services, and with morning departures from multiple Samui piers, it's easy to be diving by midday. Tickets from THB 450.

Transport types explained
- Charter
- Speedboat or charter — the fastest crossing, with fewer seats and a higher fare than the ferry.
- Ferry
- Larger boat, lowest fares and the steadiest ride — slower, but takes the most passengers (often vehicles too).
- Van
- Minivan transfer — often the hotel or town pick-up leg of a combined ticket.

Departing Koh Samui
Arriving Koh Tao
Boats depart from three piers on Koh Samui: Bangrak Pier, Mae Nam Pier, and Nathon Pier on the island's west coast. All services arrive at Mae Haad Pier on Koh Tao — the island's main landing point, where dive shops, equipment rentals and accommodation meet you at the dock. Several operators run this route, giving you a choice of vessel from high-speed catamarans to conventional ferries.
Timing and conditions
The Gulf of Thailand is generally calmer than the Andaman, and this crossing runs reliably year-round. The busiest window is roughly 07:30 to 12:00, when most services depart. We recommend the morning boats — the sea is usually at its calmest and you arrive with the full afternoon ahead of you. The journey takes around 90 minutes on the fastest option, though some ferries take longer with a stop at Koh Phangan along the way.
Koh Tao is the most popular dive certification destination in Thailand, and demand for seats peaks from December through April. Fares start from THB 450. If you're travelling with a dive bag, book ahead and confirm baggage policy with your chosen service — boat hold space fills quickly during high season.
