Ferry to Koh Tao

The journey from Surat Thani to Koh Tao combines road and sea: coaches pick up from Lomprayah Tapee Pier, Suratthani city centre, the train station, and the airport, connecting directly to the ferry that docks at Mae Haad Pier on Koh Tao. The fastest combined service gets you there in around 2.5 hours, with departures spread across the morning and into the afternoon.

What the crossing looks like

Several operators run this route, giving you plenty of departure times to work with — roughly a dozen options a day. Early departures tend to suit travellers connecting from overnight trains or buses arriving into Surat Thani in the morning. Mae Haad is the island's main pier and drops you right in the middle of the dive-shop strip and the beach road.

The Gulf is at its calmest from roughly April through October, though services run year-round. Fares start from THB 850. If you're arriving by train or bus, the pick-up from Suratthani Train Station and the city pick-up point make transfers clean and simple.
